September 2017 cohort

New guide for foundation dentists applying to join the Performer’s List

PCSE and NHS England have produced a guide to take foundation dentists step by step through the process of applying to join the Performer's List. You can download the guide here.

This guide will be circulated to foundation dentists via Health Education England.

Hints and tips for ensuring a smooth application process

It is a continued priority of NHS England and PCSE to ensure that all applications are processed as quickly as possible.

The process for reviewing and admitting new performers to the performers list involves many parties and is dependent on the supply of the correct supporting information. If there are any issues, such as incomplete or missing documents with the application checks, this will cause a delay to the process.

  • Applicants need to be aware of the importance of getting a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check early, and in advance of making an NPL1 application. It can take up to eight weeks to obtain a DBS certificate, and an application cannot be progressed without one.
  • Applicants need to register for the online DBS online update service within 19 days of the DBS certificate being issued
  • Applicants will also need an Occupational Health Clearance Certificate. This can be provided from an NHS Provider, a SEQOHS accredited occupational health provider, or an occupational health provider in the process of working towards SEQOHS qualification.

We would appreciate the support of dental practices and the BDA in sharing this important information with foundation dentists.

Other performers list requests

Outstanding performer list change requests (including changes to status, home address or practice) where the full information required has been provided have been processed.

If you are, or have been, contacted to provide additional information, please can you provide this as quickly as possible to enable the request to be processed. NHS England has agreed that where information has been requested and not received, three reminder communications will be sent. After this point, PCSE will be required to close the change request.

New guide to making NPL 2 and 3 applications

The process for making changes to a performer’s inclusion on the National Performers Lists involves a number of parties. The time taken to process a change varies according to type of request, and is highly dependent on the supply of accurate supporting information from dental practices, performers and NHS England local offices.

Based on feedback from practices, we have created a guide to the various types of change notifications and the supporting information required from each party.
