Solo work (T2)
My employee contribution statement isn't showing my SOLO work.
Please send us a copy of your Annual Solo form signed by the provider, ICB or region you carried out the Solo work for or advise us of the case reference if you have already submitted this.
We will contact the provider, ICB or region to resolve the discrepancy.
Does Solo income get recorded as Type 2 or Locum?
You are a Type 2 GP and need to complete the form. You can complete and submit 2023/24 Type 2 forms on PCSE Online.
Only an exclusive GP locum who does no other type of GP pensionable work is not required to complete an end of year form.
Instead locum forms A and B are completed each time you pension.
I have some solo forms missing from previous years' work as appraiser, I have been informed these cannot be issued retrospectively. How is it possible to resolve this?
NHS England regions have recently completed an exercise to validate historic Solo appraisal work and have provided revised data to PCSE for a number of GPs to bring Solo contributions up to date.
How do I complete my Type 2 form if I have had combined roles? (Eg hospital doctor, Solo work, Salaried GP)
Please note, this FAQ relates only to the 2023/24 Type 2 paper form. You can now complete and submit 2023/24 Type 2 forms on PCSE Online.
You need to complete row 2 on the Type 2 form for your Salaried GP work and complete row 3 for your Solo work and then your income will be totalled in row 6.
Hospital posts are treated as officer roles in the pension scheme. Contributions are paid direct to NHS Pensions by the employer and must not be included in your Type 2 form.
I am: Clinical lead for ICB/trainee/GP Appraiser/GPwSI/out of hours/employed at hospital/Solo/Locum - do I need to submit a Type 2 form and should this income be recorded on the form?
You need to submit a Type 2 form if any of your roles are treated as practitioner rather than officer in the pension scheme.
Please check with your employer if you are unsure whether a role has been pensioned direct as officer or is treated as practitioner in the pension scheme.
For solo work, if you have a contract for service, it will be pensioned as practitioner and so needs to be included on a Type 2 form. If you have a contract of service, and so needs to be included on a Type 2 form it will be pensioned direct as officer.
What happens when there are different Tiers for the same year? For example salaried GP at 9.2% and SOLO GP at 13.5%.
PCSE will calculate whether you have paid the correct level of contributions for the year when they process your Type 2 form and will let you know whether there is any shortfall or overpayment to be corrected.
