What happens next?

Once the form has been submitted, PCSE will investigate the confusion:

  • If further information is required PCSE may contact your practice or any other practice that is involved to request additional information.
  • Once enough information has been provided PSCE will log a confusion request with the National Back Office (NBO).
  • When the confusion correction has been confirmed by National Back Office, PCSE will contact all practices involved with the steps on how to resolve the confusion.  This may include a request to re-register the patient and correct their medical records.  

Please note the NBO's Investigation may take up to 10 weeks.

Important notes

  • Practices cannot contact PCSE directly by email for updates; If an update is required please visit the PCSE Contact Us page and select 'Existing Duplicates and Confusions Enquiry'.  You will need your case reference number.
  • Once a case is logged to National Back Office (NBO) it may take up to 10 weeks to resolve, depending on how much information is received on the original form, and also National Back Offices current timescales.
  • Practices should not reply to automated PCSE emails, as these are not monitored. To respond to an email, or provide further information relating to a case, please visit the  PCSE Contact Us page and select 'Existing Duplicates and Confusions Enquiry'.  You will need your case reference number.
  • Obtain as much information as possible from the patient before submitting the online form to prevent delays.  This includes any previous addresses, names, and place of birth. If insufficient information is received on the form, PCSE may need to request you contact your patient for further information.
