Special Educational Setting Claims

Overview

Sight tests carried out in special educational settings (SES) form part of NHS England’s Special Schools Eye Care Service. These sight tests are claimed through a special education setting sight claim, which is now submitted digitally using PCSE Online.

Only approved special educational setting providers can submit these claims.

For information about the service model, eligibility and commissioning, visit NHS England’s Special Schools Eye Care Service guidance.

Submitting a special educational setting sight claim in PCSE Online

Approved SES providers must submit special educational setting sight claims using PCSE Online.

Key points to note:

  • The claim is submitted directly in PCSE Online
  • The claim cannot be submitted via a Practice Management System (PMS)
  • PCSE Online is the only submission route for SES sight claims

PCSE Online validates information as it is entered, helping to reduce errors and rejected claims.

PCSE Online is a secure, web‑based system that allows approved providers to:

  • Submit special education setting sight claims
  • Track claim progress
  • Access detailed payment statements

User access and permissions are managed locally by the provider through the User Management (Organisation) role.
